Useful SEN newsletters and magazines
I work for Barnardo’s on the Parent Factor in ADHD programme, and I am reaching out to Northumberland schools, to promote our course to your families/carers.
The Parent Factor is run by Barnardo’s, and facilitated by myself and my colleague Mel, via Zoom in a small online group. We cover several topics, including, what is ADHD, offering emotional support, behavioural strategies, sleep and the SEN process amongst others.
The course runs for an hour and a half, once a week for 8 weeks. It is open to any family who lives in Northumberland, with a child/young person between the ages of 6-16yrs, with a diagnosis of ADHD.
We run our courses term time only and offer support around any worries or barriers a family/carer may have. Our course is entirely free of charge, and each family/carer will receive a certificate on completion.
NICE guidelines suggest completing a course such as ours once a child/young person has been diagnosed. We are very aware of the issues surrounding medication appointments and obtaining medication at the moment and this course provides some practical support to families.
I have attached a leaflet and a referral form for staff and/or families. Also, any
one can get in touch for an informal chat about our service.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards

NHS mental health services and autistic children and young people
We have been hearing from local families that some NHS mental health services aren’t working for them. To understand what is happening, we are asking parents to tell us about their family’s experiences of these services (School Health, CYPS and Primary Mental Health). We want to know what is working well and what could be better.
Parents can tell us about their experience online, or by getting in touch in a way that suits them. Children do not need to have a formal autism diagnosis – we also want to hear about those currently being assessed or where there is an indication of autism.
What parents tell us will be included in a report to those who pay for and provide these services, along with recommendations of how services could be improved for children and young people. It will be anonymous and we will ensure families cannot be identified.
Please could you share with parents so that we can hear from as many families in Northumberland as we can? If you have any questions about this project please let me know.
Best wishes
Claire
